Terms of Service

Welcome to socro.io. These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the socro.io website and services. By creating an account or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

socro.io is operated by Neil Griffin, operating as socro.io. Throughout these Terms, references to “we,” “us,” or “our” refer to this operator.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account or use the Service. The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Age is verified at account creation, and users under 13 are not permitted to register. If we become aware that a user is under the age of 13, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.

If you are under the age of 18, you should use the Service with the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian. Parents and guardians may review, correct, or request deletion of their child’s personal information at any time by contacting us at support@socro.io.

2. Description of Service

socro.io provides an AI-powered homework feedback tool. Users submit homework text and receive AI-generated feedback intended to support learning. The Service includes:

  • Submission of homework text for AI-powered feedback
  • Conversation history that persists across sessions
  • The ability to create and manage multiple homework question threads

The AI feedback is generated by third-party AI models and is intended as a supplemental educational resource. It is not a substitute for professional tutoring, teacher instruction, or academic guidance.

3. Accounts

To use the Service, you must create an account using a valid email address and password. You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms, is used in a manner that could harm the Service, other users, or third parties, or is used for academic dishonesty.

4. Payments and Subscriptions

Certain features of the Service require a paid subscription. Payments are processed through Stripe, a third-party payment processor. By providing payment information, you agree to Stripe’s terms of service.

All fees are listed on the Service at the time of purchase. We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable advance notice. Except where required by law, subscription fees are non-refundable. Refund requests may be considered on a case-by-case basis at our sole discretion. Unless otherwise stated, subscriptions renew automatically, and you may cancel at any time through your account settings.

You are solely responsible for all charges incurred on your account. If you are a minor, your parent or legal guardian is responsible for any charges. If an account is terminated for violating these Terms, any unused subscription time may be forfeited. Upon account closure or termination, we will cease processing new charges. Any billing data retained after termination is held only as required by applicable law or Stripe’s data retention policies.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Submit content that is obscene, offensive, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, or any related systems.
  • Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable law.
  • Submit content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers, etc.) to access the Service without our express permission.
  • Engage in academic dishonesty, including submitting AI-generated responses as original work when such use violates school policies.

We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

The feedback provided by socro.io is generated by artificial intelligence. While we strive to provide helpful and accurate feedback, we make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated responses. AI can and does make mistakes.

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated feedback should not be relied upon as the sole source of academic guidance.
  • We are not responsible for any academic outcomes, grades, or consequences resulting from use of or reliance on the Service.
  • The Service does not replace the judgment of teachers, tutors, or other qualified educators.

7. Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, and branding associated with socro.io are the property of the operator and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without express written permission.

You retain ownership of any homework text you submit. By submitting content to the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, process, transmit, and analyze that content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. This may include transmitting the content to third-party AI providers that generate feedback on our behalf. We do not use submitted homework content to train AI models, and we do not sell your content to third parties.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a user is under 13, we will promptly delete their account and associated data. Please review our Privacy Policy for full details. You may request deletion of your data by contacting us.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers for AI processing, infrastructure, and payment services, including but not limited to OpenAI, Supabase, Stripe, and Vercel. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of these third-party services. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, socro.io and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service, including but not limited to:

  • Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in AI-generated feedback
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
  • Loss of data or service interruptions
  • Any academic consequences resulting from use of the Service

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless socro.io and its operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on the Service and updating the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately, but provisions that by their nature should survive (including limitations of liability, indemnification, and intellectual property) will remain in effect.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Alameda County, California.

16. Force Majeure

We are not liable for delays or failure to perform resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including internet outages, cloud service failures, or acts of government.

If you believe your copyright has been infringed through content submitted to the Service, please contact us with a notice including the required information under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
