FAQ
Questions parents ask about Socro
Short, honest answers about how Socro works, who it’s for, and how it handles your family’s information.
Learning and honesty
Is using Socro cheating?
Not the way it’s built. Socro is designed so the student does the thinking: it asks questions and gives hints instead of handing over answers, and it won’t write essays or pick multiple-choice answers. Using Socro for academic dishonesty is against its terms.
Schools set their own rules about outside help, so check with the teacher if you’re unsure. Read the guide for parents.
Does Socro ever give the answer?
Only as a last resort. First it asks what the student has tried and gives hints one at a time. After several real attempts, it works through a similar example. Only then will it go through the answer, step by step, checking that they follow. See a real session.
Is Socro a real person?
No. Socro’s tutor is software, not a person. It’s set up to coach the way a patient tutor would, with questions first and hints second.
Can Socro make mistakes?
Yes. Socro works through problems before it replies, but like any software it can still get things wrong. It’s a study aid, not a replacement for a teacher.
Which subjects does Socro cover?
Math, Science, English and History. Students pick one at the start of each session, and Socro adjusts how it coaches for that subject.
Ages and accounts
Who is Socro for?
Students who want help with their homework, and parents who want them to learn the material instead of copying answers. Here’s how to set up an account.
Does Socro work on phones?
Yes. Socro runs in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers, so there’s nothing to install.
Who makes Socro?
Socro is built and run by Neil Griffin. Read more about Socro.
Privacy and safety
Is my child’s data safe?
Socro collects the account holder’s email, the homework and conversations your child submits, and basic usage analytics. Homework isn’t used to train models, and personal information isn’t sold or shared with third parties for their own marketing. Payments go through Stripe, and Socro doesn’t store full card numbers.
Data is sent over encrypted connections and access to the database is restricted, though no system is perfectly secure. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.
How do I delete our data?
Choose Delete Account in the account menu, or email support@socro.io. Deletion is completed within 30 days of a request. Deleting the account also cancels any Socro Pro subscription.
Cost and billing
